June 25, 2004 By: Ashton Mollina Alpine Expands Best-Selling Type-R Subwoofer line with new Pre-loaded boxesAlpine Electronics of America, Inc., the industry-leading manufacturer of high performance mobile electronics, introduced the newest additions to its best-selling Type-R subwoofer line - two dual 4 ohm pre-loaded box designs custom built to deliver all of the sound quality, performance and pounding bass that the Type-R line is known for. Alpine offers eight Type-R subwoofer models for audio enthusiasts looking for maximum SPL with high power handling capabilities. Alpine launched the 12-inch SBR-122CR subwoofer box, pre-loaded with Alpine's SWR-1241D subwoofer, and the 10-inch SBR-102CR subwoofer box, pre-loaded with an SWR-1041D subwoofer. The SBR-122CR and SBR-102CR were built for user flexibility, with dual voice coils on the subwoofers for single or dual amp applications and the ability to mount amps directly on the enclosures. The Type-R boxes feature a compound reflex design with an auxiliary chamber that improves output at lower frequencies for wider bass response and better sound quality. The 5/8-inch MDF-constructed boxes, covered with cinder gray plush carpet, feature aggressive cosmetics. The one-piece injection-molded plastic baffle is recessed with a smooth, dished in shape and can be painted for interior customization. The Type-R subwoofer motor structure is based on Alpine's exclusive Compound Radius Curve Pole geometry (patent-pending). Using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Alpine's American speaker engineers designed the magnet architecture of the Type-R subwoofers to focus maximum magnetic energy within the pole piece, resulting in increased power handling, reduced distortion and more SPL. Alpine's Compound Radius Curve Pole design also delivers improved thermal management with an airflow-optimized dual flare pole vent and integrated heat transfer plate. The dual progressive Nomex® spider design with integrated tinsel leads offers improved durability and greater SPL. In addition to the new pre-loaded boxes, Alpine will continue to offer a range of dual 2 ohm and dual 4 ohm subwoofers in sizes ranging from 10/12/15 inches. In 2003, Alpine will continue to offer two component and four coaxial Type-R speaker models, featuring the same red Type-R logo as the subwoofers for creating a cosmetically uniform sound system design. Alpine's Type-R speakers feature a high excursion motor design with an extra large woofer magnet and vented pole piece for deep bass performance with long throw. All Type-R component and coaxial speakers feature tweeters that swivel 15¾, 12dB crossover with tweeter protection, aluminum-coated poly cones, and extra-large rubber surrounds, which minimize resonance problems and dramatically increase low bass. The 6.5-inch SPR-176A component and SPR-174A coaxial speakers will this year feature a modified frame providing a better fit.
