Blaupunkt Ships Versatile Stand-Alone Car DVD/CD/MP3 Player

Blaupunkt announced today that it has begun shipping the powerful and versatile DVD-ME2 stand-alone DVD player, the first of its all-new second-generation in-car video products.

Designed for simple and easy integration with nearly any car audio/video system, the player features extremely flexible mounting, a broad array of connectivity options, and superior audio/video reproduction including compatibility with Dolby Digital, DTS, and MP3-encoded discs.

The DVD-ME2 is just 6-7/8 inches wide, 2-3/8 inches tall, and 7-7/8 inches deep, and can be mounted either horizontally or vertically, so it can be installed in a center console, under a dashboard or seat, in a trunk, or almost anywhere else in a vehicle.

An outboard Infrared Remote sensor gives passengers complete handheld control of the unit regardless of mounting location. In addition to an advanced mechanical shock isolation suspension, the player features an anti-shock buffer memory to prevent interruption of playback on rough road surfaces.

The sleek faceplate of the DVD-ME2 features an attractive blue LCD display and a set of RCA A/V input connections to allow easy connection of a portable MP3 player, camcorder, or videogame console.

The player's side panel features a second set of RCA inputs for a dedicated AUX source such as a back-up camera or other device. A single 14-pin harness on the side-panel provides simplified connection of power, ground, AUX input, IR input, A/V output, and digital audio output.

The player is capable of video reproduction in either 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios, for compatibility with conventional or widescreen monitors. It includes a coaxial digital output that is capable of passing Dolby Digital and DTS signals to an optional outboard processor, and features high quality 96 kHz/ 24-bit PCM D/A converters for line level analog audio output. It is compatible with DVD, CD, CD-R/RW, and MP3 encoded discs.

A step-up DVD player, the DVD-ME3, will include a built-in NTSC TV tuner and diversity antenna, and will be available in September at a suggested retail price of $350. In the coming months, Blaupunkt will introduce an entire line of second generation In-Car Video products, designed for simplified installation and enhanced integration and performance.

By the Fall of this year, the line will include several complete car audio/video solutions packages, as well as individual headrest and roof-mounted monitors, video switcher/converters, system controllers, and an all-in-one in-dash DVD player/ monitor.
